Go through the basic grips, prep position and swing path.
Hand feed to get a feel for the stroke and ball contact.
Then.....footwork...footwork and footwork.
If you can't get to the ball balanced then it doesn't matter how well you can strike the ball.
I work with all ages and levels.
Besides the adults that want to sharpen their skills for usta league competition, I have a kids group (age 6+) and also develop high school/usta rank junior players (boys and girls).
First of all, they need to be knowledgeable. Played at a high level is important, that goes hand in hand with being knowledgeable.
I have a group of friends (dads and their daughters that play tennis) and we get together on Sundays and have the girls go through drills and play points. The dads help collect the balls while they enjoy seeing their daughters work on their game. We have a great time and everyone looks forward to the gathering.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Why are they interested in taking lessons?
What is their goal?
How much are they willing to work to develop their game?

Coach Marty is great. My son is taking group and individual tennis classes with him. He is extremely patient and takes the time to teach each of them the fundamentals. When in one-on-one sessions he is able to work with my son on areas where he has opportunities. Coach Marty is communicative with us one what we should work with and doesn’t provide pressure. So much so that my son loves playing and learning about tennis. I would highly recommend him as a coach!
Martin is one of the best coaches I’ve ever seen—he’s professional, courteous, punctual, funny, and personable. My 7-year old son loves his tennis lessons. I wish I had a coach like Martin when I was a kid!
The most important thing is my daughter had fun going to her tennis lesson with Martin. She liked his humor, but really found his tips to be very helpful. During the drills, he would mention the tip and she would try to repeat it. I could see the difference. My daughter made the varsity h.s. team and I think Martin helped make that happen. I highly recommend Martin.
Excellent understanding of teaching tennis and constant correction on errors. My tennis continues to improve with Martin’s excellent instruction. Recommended without reservation!!
Martin is such a great coach—encouraging but not patronizing. His technical insights are spot on and have been helping me correct decades old habits that have dramatically improved my strokes.
I played a lot of tennis in high school but haven’t much since (it’s been almost 20 years since then). When I met Martin, I was inspired to dust off the cobwebs and take it up again. I’m so glad I did. Martin runs a great lesson. A good balance of technique and cardio. Within just the first class, I felt myself reconnect with the sport, correct some footing, and strengthen my strokes. I’m excited to take more lessons and continue to grow and improve. Definitely recommend!
Highly recommended: Martin has been coaching my 15-year-old daughter for less than two years. I have watched as my daughter’s game, in every area, has steadily improved so that she has just this year begun doing USTA tournaments. I think Martin is a great tennis coach; He is professionally knowledgeable, he listens, he seems to know just what skills to teach, he is enthusiastic, encouraging and has complete positive regard.
Martin is a great teacher that is extremely flexible and was able to help me in every aspect of my game. Martin is also very friendly and takes a great approach. Would recommend to players of all levels.
Nunez Tennis has helped my child develop beyond what I expected. Coach is patient and knowledgeable. He has a firm grasp on fundamentals and creates drills that keeps my child engaged and focused.
He is a very professional and positive couch
My daughter has been taking lessons from him for over two years and have great results.
We love Marty, amazing human beingYou have to take tennis lessons with Martin! I saw him working with some high school students and really liked his energy and teaching style. I asked if he could work with my 7 year old and some of his friends. We have been going now for a few months and he is great with the kids. A group of 7 year old energetic boys can be a handful but you wouldn’t know it with him. He knows how to motivate the kids, keep them on track, and he makes it fun. The exercises he does are age appropriate and have helped the kids excel way faster than I thought could happen. Martin is the best coach we’ve worked with in any sport. So glad we found him!
Coach Marty has worked with my daughter for last 2 years and I am more than thrilled with the level of tennis she is exhibiting. He is able to teach his students strong fundamentals which will help them improve quickly. Coach Marty was a collegiate and high level USTA player which is a plus for players who want to be more competitive. I would highly recommend him to those just beginning to intermediate and advance players wanting to take their game to the next level.
Coach Nunez really pushed me to be the best player I could be. His drills were pretty challenging but definitely made me a better athlete! I miss him as a coach and his funny jokes and inspiring talks.
He is very patient and understanding when it comes to making mistakes and has many great methods of fixing them. He does not make the lesson stressful with too much information and knows how to make what you are learning fun. I have enjoyed my practice time with him and have improved on my form, footwork, and mental game so much over just the year I have been taught by Coach Martin.
I've been struggling with my backhand for years and a couple people have tried to help me with it. One hour long session with Martin and I've already seen massive improvements! He has a great understanding of how to help you and he makes your work hard but he's easily one of the best coaches I've ever worked with. I highly recommend him to anyone trying to step up their game.
Player/coach!! Excellent knowledge, able to encourage !! Emphasizes fundamental techniques and application in live playing sessions! Overall, the best instruction I’ve ever received. A stickler for foot work and preparation!! Thanks Martin for your time and instruction.. highly recommended!
