About Poirsha

Growing up in Los Angeles, involvement in many different sports was an important part of my life. Some of the sports and activities I participated in at various points in my life were dance, gymnastics, track & field, basketball, and soccer, which I was fortunate enough to play at the Division I collegiate level. My new passion in life is practicing, studying and imparting Yoga & Ayurvedic knowledge to others. Yoga & Ayurveda form a complete and comprehensive methodology for healing and living with vitality with a holistic and natural approach. I can attest personally, because the daily application of Yoga & Ayurvedic principles and practices in my life has helped to sharpen my mind and heal my body. My goal as an instructor is to advocate, promote, and facilitate the enhancement of the quality of breath & movement for my students and clients.

I have privately taught personal and group sessions for 2 years. Concurrently I have been substitute teaching for elderly and employee classes at Glendale Adventist Hospital. I am 200hr yoga alliance certified. I have a 70hr certification for Yoga Tune Up under the tutelage of the creator of the Yoga Tune Up balls, Jill Miller. I have knowedge in anatomy and movement and incorporate therapy balls to release tense fascia in the deep tissues of the body. My largest clientelle are people with injuries, aches and pains and ages 40-90years old. I have a facebook page: 'Paw Yoga Fit' and website: veggievedayogi.com. The greatest reward of teaching is hearing people tell me how much better they move days later and how they want to make practicing yoga a priority in their lives because of how it makes them feel energetically and physically.

I was taking classes and was curious about learning more about it. I am a former Division 1 soccer player and am competitive and yoga satisfies my desire to constantly challenge myself.

Yoga can be philosophical and I have a B.A. in Philosophy. I am a certified yoga instructor and read yoga literature, take classes weekly to stay sharp and am always striving to learn.

I email new students a questionnaire to fill out so I have background information of their physical limitations and goals.

I've taught 7 year olds all the way up to 90 years old. I offer and encourage people to use chairs to practice yoga for balance and support. Lots of middle age students have back, neck andn shoulder injuries that we work with. Yoga offers lots of modifications, so it is accessible for all bodies in all conditions.

Make sure they listen to your requests and needs and address them with compassion and care.

My favorite recently was teaching the Elderly yoga class. I researched eye muscle exercises and came up with finger and toe exercises that I felt would be useful and fun to try out with them. They enjoyed it and said they never did those in a class before and was glad to try new things.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think all teachers are open to exchanging ideas and know that students probably will not remember all of their needs. Teachers are creative and flexible and we can work with whatever situation presents itself. Lots of thoughts and feelings and emotions come up in poses and ailments and aches may be apart of it, so if there needs to be adjustments, we encourage the student to inform us so they can feel as comfortable as they can.
