About Elsie

I am a writer and theatre director who has been tutoring English at a high level for several years from early literacy to university level, including high-performing A-level students. All my students have gained confidence, developed their personal voice and gone on to achieve top marks in their final exams.

About the lesson

My teaching is very student-centric. I begin my work with each student by reviewing their past work, identifying blocks and barriers to expression, understanding or attitudes to the subject. I encourage them to set their own goals and to bring more of their own interests, thoughts, critical thinking and personality to their engagement with the subject. I teach by teaching the whole person, and believe that in English, understanding, logic and argument comes first and lucidity and style follow.

Elsie helped me in the lead-up to an audition for a performing arts school and I GOT IN! I was super happy and really enjoyed our work together. They're very observant and fun to work with.

Elsie was my final year English tutor, and not only did they help me receive top marks, but they increased my confidence and taught me how to enjoy English again! I learnt to love the subject and always looked forward to our lessons. - Helena
