About Melinda
I have over 20 years teaching experience, including Grades 7-12 and at the college/university levels. I have a PhD in Educational Measurement and Statistics. I am well versed in using a variety of strategies and resources to meet an individual student's learning style and enjoy using different techniques as it helps keep sessions a little more interesting. I have taught at a Deaf university for 3.5 years as well as at a high school for autistic students where I taught all subjects for 11th and 12th graders.

Initially I meet with students and, if applicable, parents/guardians to get an idea of specific needs (usually about 20 minutes of first meeting). During that same initial session, I will give the student some sample items to get a better idea of skill level(s). I will then develop a plan and send to the client for review and further discussions, if needed. Over the years I have become convinced that often the issue is not ability but confidence so I work hard to help a student develop more of an "I can" attitude. I have taught all levels from 7th grade to 12th grade as well as college and university students, including 3.5 years at a university for Deaf students. I really enjoy tutoring as I can get to know the student much better than in a typical classroom environment and thus tailor lessons to the individual student better. I have a variety of resources to use but if a student can provide information for a class or test (SAT/ACT/ASVAB) such as a syllabus or class notes, that would be great! I hope to work with you soon!

Excellent! I do not know their strengths or methodologies as we did not meet due to Sophia being placed back on school. Melinda seemed very nice and understanding but do look forward to meeting with her in the near future. Thank you.
