Central to my teaching philosophy is inspiring students to question assumptions, information, and experiences in an academic fashion. When students employ these practices it illuminates the
curriculum. They will learn to become their own master teachers and take ownership of the work. Thus, I create situations where students purposefully and academically recognize the ‘facts’ of the text, and then look beyond them to find the meaning. My background in teaching rhetoric, argumentation, literary analysis and semantics in both speech and text encourages students to see past the ‘inert facts’ of the word and truly understand the world.
