About Liam
I am a Maths tutor with over five years of teaching experience and hold a Master’s in Mathematics (MMath). My passion for the subject goes beyond problem-solving and formulae—I am deeply fascinated by the history of mathematics and the evolution of mathematical thought. I believe that every theorem, concept, and equation carries with it a story worth exploring. From the ancient contributions of Babylonian, Egyptian, and Greek civilisations to the groundbreaking ideas of mathematicians like Euclid, Euler, and Gauss, I enjoy tracing how mathematical knowledge has grown through time. Understanding these origins allows students to see mathematics not as a rigid subject, but as a living journey shaped by human curiosity and creativity. In my lessons, I highlight not just how to solve problems but why those problems were first studied and how discoveries changed the way we think. I share the cultural and intellectual contexts in which ideas emerged, helping learners appreciate that mathematics has always been part of human history and progress. Whether it’s the origins of number theory, the beauty behind geometric proofs, or the stories of famous conjectures, I guide students to see mathematics as both an art and a science. This approach builds a deeper connection to the subject and often inspires curiosity well beyond the classroom. I believe that exploring the history of mathematics makes it more engaging, relatable, and meaningful. It transforms numbers and symbols into a story of human achievement and imagination.

My teaching approach in Mathematics is centred on developing deep conceptual understanding rather than memorisation. I guide students through subjects ranging from school-level maths to advanced areas like abstract algebra, number theory, mathematical proofs, and theoretical concepts. Every learner has a unique way of seeing mathematics, and I encourage them to discover their own path through problem-solving and reflection. I believe that mathematics is not just about finding answers but about asking better questions. With a gentle and reflective style, I create a space where students can think independently and grow in confidence. Complex theorems and abstract ideas are broken down into simple steps, so learners can build clarity without feeling overwhelmed. I especially support DIY learners and researchers, helping them explore beyond textbooks and connect ideas in innovative ways. My methodology involves guiding them to see patterns, test ideas, and challenge assumptions until they arrive at their own insights. Assignments and exam preparation are important, but I also focus on nurturing mathematical thinking that lasts far beyond grades. Each session is interactive, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and logical reasoning.
