About Olivia
My colorful professional background includes work as an elementary and middle school literacy interventionist, providing special education instruction to struggling students; a high school English teacher, with a focus on reading/writing and improving literacy gaps; and a college Writing Consultant for various universities, working to improve and expand student writing from diverse backgrounds. I have a wide range of experiences, but the most important thing to know about me is I LOVE TO BRING THE JOY BACK TO READING AND WRITING with students. Reading and writing should be FUN! My mission is to share the joy of literacy for struggling students. With 5+ years of experience as a University Writing Center consultant, 9 years of English education experience, and a background in special education and literacy instruction, I enjoy working with a wide range of students from basic developmental language skills to college/academic writing and rhetorical analysis.
My teaching philosophy is to meet students where they are and use their strengths and personal passions to develop interest and skills. If you are looking for someone to open your eyes to literary possibilities and enhance your reading and writing skills, my smiling face is happy to help :)

Olivia started tutoring my sister in the summer when she moved from China. She has helped my sister tremendously. She has been providing consistent weekly tutoring, making weekly class plans, and helping her with homework and reading. In the last 4 months, I have seen my sister's English improve a lot, and she has also gained a lot of confidence in speaking.
Olivia took thoughtful time to analyze the requirements I struggled with. She provide essential points to tackling my assignment and helped me to implement her method of organizing. I found that once she laid out a plan everything that seemed to keep me stagnant was no longer and issue. Her care and attention to detail is nothing less than trustworthy and vigilant. I am grateful for her hand in my renewed boost of confidence.
Olivia is great! She spends a lot of time preparing for sessions to create exercises with subject matter that engages my daughter. We have had my daughter in 2x a week sessions this summer and she has kept her interested and engaged.
