About Yael
About My Teaching:
I've been working with moving image since I was a child — editing on Windows Movie Maker from around age four, making short films, and by high school running a video production course for three years and managing my school's YouTube channel. I was working in the industry before I finished my degree in Media and Communications, and that gap between formal education and how production actually works is the foundation of everything I teach.
My lessons are built around your project, your goals, and your current level. I don't teach from a fixed syllabus — I put you inside real problems and we work outward from there. That means hands-on, practical learning from the first session. If you're developing a short film, we work on that. If you need to understand budgeting, we build a real one. If you're writing a cinema studies essay, we interrogate the argument together. Lessons typically run 60 to 90 minutes, online or in person.
Across my career I've developed and presented pitch decks that have won multiple briefs for major clients — learning firsthand what makes a pitch land and what kills it in the room. I teach pitch deck creation from that experience, covering structure, visual communication, and how to tailor a presentation to your audience. Alongside this I teach the most relevant tools across design, budgeting, and presentations — both traditional industry software and the AI tools that are increasingly shaping how productions are developed and sold.
My approach draws on 8+ years of professional production experience across commercial film, television, broadcast, and advertising — including campaigns for clients like Mastercard, AFL, and Warner Music. I've navigated high-stakes productions with complex regulatory, cultural, and logistical challenges, and I bring that real-world problem-solving instinct into every lesson.
My lessons suit film and media students, emerging filmmakers, career changers, and creative professionals at any level. Whether you're picking up a camera for the first time or developing your first feature, the goal is the same — to leave each session with something you can immediately apply.

Teaching Approach:
My lessons are structured around how the industry actually works — not just theory. Every session combines conceptual grounding with practical, applicable skills you can use immediately on a real project.
I adapt my teaching to where you are: a film student working on their first short needs different things than a career-changer trying to break into commercial production, and I tailor accordingly. Lessons are typically 60–90 minutes, either online or in-person.
What I Teach:
- Film, video and television production — from development through delivery
- Short film and feature film development — story, structure, and production planning
- Film and TV budgeting — industry-standard tools and real-world cost logic
- Pitch deck creation — how to present a project to funders, producers, and commissioners
- Pre-production planning — callsheets, shooting schedules, location logistics, permits
- Commercial and advertising production — from brief to screen
- Creative storytelling and screenwriting development
- Cinema studies — essay support, critical analysis, film theory
Who This Is For:
Film and media students at any level, emerging filmmakers developing their first or second project, professionals transitioning into production, and anyone working in or adjacent to the screen industry who wants to sharpen their craft or business understanding. Lessons suit ages 16 and up. Younger students are considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on demonstrated commitment and progress.

Yael and I date a few years back. She's multifaceted, skilled, and passionate in everything she does. Hooping has always been a big passion of hers for as long as I can remember. She’s performed in multiple shows and festivals! You’ll enjoy every moment with her; the flow will make both the sessions and connection with her so smooth!
Yael is the best teacher I have had.
Extremely talented, with a lot of patience and clear instructions.
She prepared me for a performance at a festival with a repertoire of difficult tricks.View more recommendations
