About Laurie
I am a graduate of the University of Manchester where I studied English Literature and Drama, earning a First-Class Undergraduate Degree. I have also just completed an MFA in Theatre Directing at Birkbeck, UoL. Though my own personal interest and path has leant towards theatre, the textual analytical skills I employ in my work as a director all have their roots in my love and previous study of English Literature. I have an expansive knowledge and interest in Modern and Classical literature spanning novels, poetry and drama. I also teach for the National Youth Theatre and my passion for helping unlock young people's potential, and empowering them to develop themselves along with their skills and learning is what motivates me as a teacher.

Hour-long lessons will be tailored to the pupil and their specific needs, but will include: unpacking the text, understanding the socio-political context, deep textual analysis, forming an argument, improving essay writing skills, spelling, grammar and exam preparation. My approach seeks to empower the student to make their own connections to a text, and to encourage and expand their thinking and analysis to reach its furthermost development. I then seek to help shape their ideas into an argument that allows their thinking to be communicated most clearly, eloquently and succinctly in their writing. I have a First Class Undergraduate Degree in English Literature and Drama from the University of Manchester, and have just completed an MFA in Theatre Directing at Birkbeck, UoL. I achieved an A* and 2 A's in my A Levels, including full marks on my A Level English Literature Coursework. I also work as a Drama Facilitator with the National Youth Theatre, teaching acting and drama with young people from ages 14-15. I will be offering lessons to GCSE/Nat 5 and A Level/Higher English Literature Students.
