About Tristan

I grew up in a small coastal town in Malaysia known to be "sleepy", where pensioners go to retire and rest. On this basis, there was limited access to external tutoring services outside scheduled classroom learning. I knew in order to excel academically, I had to adopt an optimal method in developing my own learning techniques. As someone who lacked a mentor or guide in this phase of my life, I am keen to pass on my learnings across the three categories: IGCSEs & A-levels, Academic LLB, Legal Career (BigLaw).

Credentials: 4A* in Cambridge International A-level Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Psychology before graduating in Law from Durham University (1st class). Along the way, I moved from a science background into English law and secured a London vacation scheme at Ashurst Perkins Coie, despite starting without an established connection to the English legal profession.

I already privately tutor and mentor international-school students, including aspiring Durham Law applicants. I now want to support more students not only in achieving their next academic or career goal, but in developing the confidence and independence to tackle the challenges that follow.

About the lesson

IGCSE and A-level Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics:
Identifying weaknesses and tailoring lessons to individual student.

Academic Law:
Focus on critical analysis for higher marks.
Essay questions: Structured answers, evaluate competing views, developing independent theses.
Problem questions: Identifying nuances between authorities and applying to facts in question.

Building distinctive personal profile.
Connect experiences and strengths to career motivations and firm choice.
Refine applications and practise interviews with targeted feedback on structure and delivery.
