About Jamie
Hi! I'm Jamie, and I've been a tutor for three years now, teaching to a high level in a wide range of subjects.
My degree is in History and Politics, giving me a wide range of subjects in which I can provide valuable academic insight, private tutoring, and writing and style advice. I also have experience with the Oxford Admissions system, having studied at Merton College (which is known for its tough admissions processed), meaning I can provide first-rate admissions tutoring and interview advice. Beyond my degree, I also have a strong background in Maths and Sciences, and can confidently tutor these to A Level and GCSE standards.
My tutoring tends to emphasise discussion and understanding of methods, with face to face time spent with me often spent trying to provide new perspectives on content. A typical tutoring session with me will consist of a review of work completed between sessions (which I will have marked beforehand), before discussing how the concepts covered could be applied in unorthodox scenarios, and how it relates to the wider subject. With this approach, my tutoring focuses on providing a deeper undertstanding not only of the rote processes of the subject, but also a comprehension of why these processes work as they do. With this, my students have routinely been able to reach high grades, and have been successful in their applications to extremely competitive courses at some of the best universities in the world.
I also have the ability to specialise my tutoring to working with both 'gifted and talented' students and students with ADHD/ADD. My own firsthand experience in working and staying motivated has led me to develop effective strategies for these students in reaching their fullest potential.
