About Akrum
My academic journey is rooted in a deep understanding of the current UK specifications. I achieved straight Grade 9s at GCSE (including triple science) and went on to secure an A* in A-Level Biology alongside top grades in Chemistry and Mathematics. Having successfully navigated the highly competitive entry process for medical school, I know exactly what it takes to transform hard work into top-tier results.
Beyond my own studies, I have a strong background in mentorship and leadership. I spent two years working as a basketball coach, which taught me how to communicate effectively, keep energy levels high, and motivate students when they hit a wall. Additionally, my experience working within the NHS as a healthcare assistant—where I am Basic Life Support (BLS) certified—has instilled in me a strict standard of professionalism, reliability, and patience.
I don’t believe in dry lectures or mindless memorisation. Because I sat these exact exams recently, I understand the pressure students face and the specific traps examiners set. My goal as a tutor is to be the mentor I wish I had: someone who makes the lessons interactive, cuts through the jargon, and builds the ultimate confidence needed to ace exam day.

My teaching methodology is built on a simple philosophy: Don't study longer; study smarter. As a current medical student, I have to process massive volumes of complex biological and chemical information every day. I bring the exact same high-efficiency, evidence-based learning techniques used in medical school down to the GCSE and A-Level curriculum.
MY TECHNIQUES:
- We do not waste time passively reading textbooks or highlighting notes. Instead, my lessons are interactive and structured around two core pillars:
- Active Recall & Spaced Repetition: I use dynamic quiz-style questioning throughout the lesson to force the brain to retrieve information. This builds stronger neural connections and ensures long-term retention.
- The "Mark Scheme Insider" Method: Knowing the science is only half the battle; you have to speak the examiner's language. Having recently achieved straight 9s and A*s, I teach students how to spot the "trigger words" in a question and write answers that perfectly align with strict AQA, OCR, and Edexcel mark schemes.
LESSON STRUCTURE:
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, which is the sweet spot for maintaining high focus without cognitive fatigue. A standard session looks like this:
- First 10 Mins: "Brain Dump" retrieval quiz on the previous week's topic to cement memory.
- Middle 35 Mins: Deep dive into the new core concept, using digital diagrams and whiteboards to visually map out processes.
- Final 15 Mins: Working through real, past exam paper questions together, dissecting exactly where marks are won or lost.
WHO I TEACH:
- I specialise in supporting students through critical academic transitions:
- GCSE / IGCSE Students (Ages 14–16): Perfect for those looking to jump from a Grade 6 to a 9, or students finding the step up from Year 9 science overwhelming.
- A-Level Students (Ages 16–18): Tailored specifically for Year 12 and 13 students targeting top grades for competitive university courses (Medicine, Dentistry, Vet Med, or STEM degrees).
MY QUALIFICATIONS:
I don't just know how to teach; I have proven, top-tier academic results under the current UK specification:
- GCSEs: Straight Grade 9s in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. and across 7 other subjects
- A-Levels: A* in Biology, A in Chemistry, A* in Mathematics.
Current Status: First-year Medical Student (MBChB) at the University of Bristol.
- Teaching Background: Two years of sports coaching and extensive experience providing private GCSE academic support.
Whether you are struggling to grasp the foundational concepts or you know the content but keep losing marks on exam technique, I tailor my pace to fit your specific goals!
