About Amy
My name is Amy and I am a passionate fisheries research scientist based in the Northern Territory. My particular expertise lies in shark and ray fisheries, along with Threatened Species. I have been passionate about sharks and rays and science since I was little growing up on the coast in Western Australia. I have been tutoring, teaching, lecturing and running outreach programs for the last 7 years in various different formats. I have always been enthusiastic about sharing my knowledge and learning all I can from my students.

Online tutoring from primary school to university students. Lessons tailored to your unique learning styles and needs and typical lesson length is 60 mins. 10 years experience at university and 5 years professional experience as a fisheries scientist. Teaching and tutoring experience including: Developing outreach activities and lessons for students in rural and remote communities in the NT, •Travel with NT Fisheries to communities and schools and deliver outreach. •Getting feedback from students and continue to develop programs Casual Lecturing of Sustainability (ENG519), Charles Darwin University •Prepare all lectures, tutorials and materials •Weekly lecture and tutorial presentation •Manage students and respond to emails •Schedule, write and mark all assignments Remote and urban school outreach officer, Inspire NT •Managing and running events for Inspire NT and Science Week •In charge of liaising with schools for science week projects •Coordinating school Science Week involvement •Creating and managing Inspire NT projects and Science Week outreach projects •Traveling to remote communities to coordinate outreach projects •Coordinating the presentation of school’s work at events during Science Week •Promoting science week to remote school teachers, students and community members •Promoting non-science week outreach in remote communities Tutoring of Indigenous Undergraduate Students, Charles Darwin University •Tutoring undergraduate students in Environmental science units and biology units •Providing support and guidance to students through experience, writing techniques, statistical analysis assistance and research planning Undertaking Science Week Outreach programs: •outreach program in 5 remote communities in the MacDonald Region around Alice Springs. Teaching school students about animal tracking and animal movement ecology •outreach workshop at the Charles Darwin University Science Fair during National Science Week •plan and run a pilot science outreach program in remote communities around the Northern Territory over 18 months. The aim of this program was to introduce students in schools to western sustainable fisheries management and to gain an understanding from students about fishing in their communities through open communication.
