About Emily
I was born in Texas and am of both Mexican and Anglo decent, which has allowed me to understand not only a life of two cultures, but also how important language is to truly connecting with people. I have a B.A for the University of Arkansas in History & Spanish with a minor in Latin American studies as well as M.A in History focusing on 20th century Latino American sociopolitical advancements. For the past 10 years I have worked at an American art museum where my role was to provide gallery engagement activities with ESL classes from children to adults.

Learning to speak like native speakers is what all language learners really want. My methodology focuses on teaching most frequently used English words/phrases thru visual aids. This allows learners to first see an image, then say what the image is out loud in English, and then write that word down. This “See, Say, Write” method is proven to be effective by incorporating the various ways people learn new information—visual, verbal, tactile.
I have created many lesson plans and worksheets, many in English and Spanish, with images, phrases, and words so that learners start any session already familiar with subject/vocab in their native language.
