About Bel
I graduated top of my year in music from Cambridge University. I have also studied jazz piano at postgraduate level at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and at Cologne Hochschule für Musik und Tanz. I am in high demand as a freelance pianist (classical and jazz) and church organist, and have a vast array of performing experience across a huge range of genres. This gives me immense breadth as well as depth of knowledge - practical as well as theoretical - to bring to my tutoring. My compositions and arrangements have been heard in the Royal Albert Hall; the Wigmore Hall; and Birmingham Symphony Hall; and have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3. As a performer I have featured on BBC Radio 3 In Tune, and have given solo recitals in Westminster Abbey and Kings' College chapel Cambridge.

I specialise in teaching music to more advanced students, usually adults and sometimes teenagers. My expertise covers music theory (especially harmony) across both the Western classical and the jazz spheres; composition; and all-round practical musicianship. Every student has different goals and I like to establish these goals quickly, in order to tailor the lessons to the individual. For example, some students may prefer to learn traditional techniques (e.g. harmony and counterpoint); others may be more interested in freeform improvisation. Some might just want theory; others may want tools to help them in performance. That being said, I believe in always linking the practical and theoretical sides together. I can support students who want help with their school or university music courses. Lesson lengths are flexible, but an hour typically works well. I have several years' experience as a tutor and lecturer at Cambridge University (primarily in harmony & counterpoint; tonal composition; fugue; aural skills; keyboard skills) and have also taught aural skills at Middlesex University. I am DBS-certified.

Bel is a great tutor and helped me so much when preparing for a Guildhall audition and many other gigs. Despite being beyond brilliantly talented, Bel was so patient with how difficult I was finding it and I really improved my skills under their guidance.
Bel has been tutoring me for nearly two years now. They, firstly, are one of the most talent musicians I've ever met. Their musical abilities impress me constantly, and yet they're still able to convey information in a very accessible way for me (a complete beginner). During our sessions, they've broken things down into parts and checked my understanding throughout, and I've found myself improving massively thanks to their guidance. As a person, they're also kind, friendly, funny yet professional. I would definitely recommend Bel's tutoring, from beginners to advanced musicians.
