About Anupam
I have been teaching and tutoring Mathematics for more than twenty years, working with students across the UK, Europe and the Gulf. I retired as Head of Mathematics at St Bernard's Catholic Grammar School in Langley in 2019, and now tutor full-time, alongside continuing work as an examiner and assessor for Edexcel (UK and International), AQA, OCR and Cambridge International - at GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level and International A-Level.
My specialisms are the UK GCSE and A-Level (including Further Mathematics), the Edexcel International A-Level and IGCSE, Cambridge International, and the IB Diploma — and I am particularly experienced with internationally mobile families who want British-curriculum tuition wherever they happen to be living. I tutor online worldwide and in person at my home in Warfield, Berkshire.
What my students tell me they value most is that I know each curriculum from the inside, including how it is examined. The Edexcel International A-Level rewards a different intellectual habit from the IB Diploma; my job is to know the difference and translate it into a learning programme that fits the student in front of me.
Recent students include a young woman whose A grade firmed her place at Oxford (mechanics, formerly her weakest paper, became her strongest), a Year 11 student lifted from grade 4 to grade 7 in weeks, and a sustained record of grade 8 and 9 outcomes at GCSE and IGCSE.
Before teaching, I had a different career: a decade as a senior executive at LIC of India, then after my move to the UK in 1996, retraining in IT and roles at a London software house and at HSBC Asset Management. I left in 2004 to qualify as a teacher.
I hold an MSc in Mathematics, a PGCE, QTS, an Enhanced DBS, and long-standing membership of British Mensa.

Every student I work with gets a programme built around their syllabus, their level, and their specific goals — there is no off-the-shelf approach.
For KS3 and lower GCSE students (Years 7 to 10), lessons usually run for an hour. For Year 11 students and all of A-Level, I recommend 90 minutes. The longer format matters at exam level: an hour does not leave enough time for a proper review of the previous week's work, a substantive new section, and a meaningful close. That said, the choice is the family's — I am happy to tutor exam-year students in 60-minute sessions if that suits their schedule or budget better.
A typical lesson begins by reviewing whatever has been set since we last met — not to mark it, but to understand where the student got stuck, and why. From there we work through new material together: I explain a concept, ask the student to apply it in a few questions, and we discuss the reasoning at each step. I do not give answers students could work out themselves — I expect them to think — but I am patient with the process, and never make a student feel stupid for not seeing something immediately. Lessons end with a clear set of work for next time, and a note on what we will cover.
Between lessons, I am available by email for short questions on specific problems. I do not charge for these — they are part of the relationship.
What makes my approach different from most tutoring you will find: I do not skip to past papers. Almost every student who comes to me has been drilled on past papers by a previous tutor without first understanding the underlying concepts. The grades that come from that approach plateau quickly. I take the slower route — secure the foundations, build fluency, then introduce exam technique — and the grades go further as a result.
The other thing I bring that few tutors can: current examiner experience for Edexcel, AQA, OCR and Cambridge International. I know how each board's papers are marked, where candidates lose marks, and how to convert understanding into a strong grade in the room.

Perfect! She's patient, concise and clear when teaching.
- I really enjoyed my lesson with Marc-Eddy. He was very polite and pleasant. We decided to do a past paper and he stayed focussed for the whole lesson and was open to suggestions. We got a lot of ground covered in the hour. Looking forward to doing more lessons with Rayan!Anupam's response :
Perfect! She was very experienced and knowledgeable about the content. She provided ways of understanding the content better and also provided crucial exam information about the specific exam board.
- I really enjoyed my lesson with Rayan. He was very polite and pleasant. He stayed focussed for the whole lesson and was open to suggestions. Anupam is a wholly committed and excellent tutor with a huge passion for maths, her encouragement, assistance and continued support (whether it be inside tutor sessions or not) has made the beginning of my A-level maths journey so much easier!
Subsequently, I have received scores in the high ends of my class and have fantastic predictions towards the end of my A-levels, making me feel so much more confident about the subject. Asides from being a great tutor, Anupam is genuinely a fantastic all rounded individual, sessions are relaxed and you feel unpressured to ask questions and no matter what the topic you will get a step by step guide on divergent ways to approach questions that maybe difficult.
There were questions that even my A-Level maths teachers couldn’t do, however Anupam managed to do it immediately, her expertise in the subject is strongly illuminated through teaching methods and approaches to questions. Our tutor sessions are something that I look forward to every week and as a result I enjoy my A-level course that much more, making it so much easier to excel in the subject of maths and access my dream futuristic career of becoming a doctor, where grades are high in demand! I would undoubtedly say that its a privilege to have access to such a incredible tutor, and fabulous personality. I cannot wait to continue my studies with Anupam over the next few years!Anupam is an EXCELLENT MATH TUTOR! highly recommend her. She helped me since September 2021 and my grades have improved massively since then! She is absolutely amazing and such a kind human being! So supportive and very patient. Any topics I struggle with, she explains thoroughly. So lucky to have her as my math tutor from every point of view and my good grades are all because of her :-) 5 ️ rating
PS: Got an 8 in my Maths GCSE and doing A-Level Maths now :-)Anupam has been teaching my daughter for the past 6 months and I must admit that my daughter not only enjoys her lessons but has also improved her scores.
Anupam simplifies the problem which makes it easy for the child to understand and retain.
She comes highly recomended.Anupam has a supportive approach to teaching whilst also maintaining a keen eye on improving results. My son has been with Anupam for about a year and his technical ability has increased greatly as well as his speed of computation. He is very happy and comfortable with the style of teaching that Anupam employs. I would not hesitate in recommending Anupam to any student in need to expert guidance in the realm of Mathematics.
My son was really struggling with the demands of A-level maths, so we enlisted the help of Anupam. Within weeks, Anupam had identified areas for improvement and he went from scoring an E in end of year exams, to scoring a B. His performance has continued to improve thanks to Anupam's targeted academic interventions, and her ability to inspire confidence in his ability. Nothing is ever too much for Anupam - see really cares for her students
Anupam is absolutely one of the best tutors I have found. She currently tutors all of my three children.
My Son was able to achieve A star in his Maths GCSE and is on track to achieve A star in his Maths A Levels.
My Eldest daughter is looking to also looking to achieve A Star in her GCSE’s this summer. I have just started my youngest daughter who is in Year 7 – who adores her lessons with Anupam.
My Children love her teaching methods. She has an extraordinary ability to engage the attention of the student throughout her lessons, her engagement is of a high delivery. Anupam seems to manage to provide a lot of content in a very structured way.Anupum is very professional and extremely qualified in her field of Maths. She has a lot of time and patience for her students. Anupum helped my son to grow in confidence and encouraged him see things in a different light that no other teacher has done.
She is an exceptional tutor and not only has she tutored my son but worked on his strengths and weaknesses to get the best out of him.
I would highly recommend Anupum. She is the best you will find!I had studied GCSE Maths several times and failed. I needed the grade desperately so I could further my career. I came across Anupam online and she had excellent reviews. Although not local to me I read others had also travelled to be tutored by her as excellent teachers are hard to find.
Anupam is polite and friendly and incredibly experienced She is a qualified Teacher (this was very important to me as a qualified teacher is familiar with the various exam boards and syllabuses) who lead a busy Maths dept in school. She can teach Maths for all ages and beyond and has access to a wide range of teaching materials to support your lesson. She is very dedicated and driven and plans each lesson well in order to get through the required syllabus.
I had always struggled with Maths and would not have passed this GCSE if it wasn't for her. Her teaching is clear-I actually began to understand Maths which hadn't happened before. As a teacher she can support all abilities and is very patient if you don't understand. She would simply explain it another way until I did.
She was extremely flexible fitting in my lessons, despite having many students on her books. Anupam always found time to fit me in as she knows how important it is us students need to pass. She went over the topics I needed help with and gave me practise papers to assess where I needed further help.
I can not recommend this teacher enough. I am incredibly grateful to her.I am a 24 year old student who previously did not achieve a level 4/5 ( ‘C’ grade’ in old money) for GCSE Maths during my time at secondary school. Recently, I have been keen on obtaining a ‘C grade’. However, I knew that it would take a lot of determination and practice to achieve my aim.
Anupam holds Qualified Teacher status; previously Head of Mathematics at a high achieving grammar school is experience that you cannot put a price on.
Lessons with Anupam have been money well spent. Anupam has boosted my confidence and taught me mathematical skills which will remain with me for life.
Thank you Anupam!View more recommendations
