About Nathaniel
My name is Nathaniel, and I’m a Mechanical Engineering student at Vanderbilt University with a strong foundation in mathematics and a genuine passion for helping students learn. I understand what it feels like for math to seem confusing or overwhelming, I used to feel the same way until I finally encountered teachers who explained things clearly. That experience drives my approach today: patient, structured, and focused on building real understanding rather than memorization. I take pride in being reliable, prepared, and easy to work with. Whether a student is struggling to keep up or looking to excel, I create a supportive learning environment where questions are encouraged and progress is always the goal. My background in engineering allows me to explain concepts in a logical, intuitive way, and I communicate with the clarity and professionalism students and families expect. I’m committed to helping every student develop confidence, independence, and a genuine sense of capability in their math skills.

My Approach as a Tutor-
I believe that great math teaching comes from meeting students exactly where they are. My method focuses on breaking concepts down into clear, intuitive steps and showing why things work, not just how to do them. I use real-world examples, guided problem-solving, and a patient, conversational teaching style to help students build genuine confidence instead of memorizing shortcuts or guessing their way through homework.
How My Lessons Work-
A typical session begins with a quick check-in to understand what the student is learning, where they’re getting stuck, and what their goals are. From there, we walk through core concepts together, practice problems with increasing difficulty, and end with a personalized review so the student knows exactly what to work on next. Every lesson is customized; if a student learns best visually, verbally, or through repetition, I adapt my approach accordingly.
What Sets Me Apart-
I wasn’t always a math lover, mostly because I never had someone explain it to me in a way that made sense. That experience shaped how I teach today. I know what unclear instruction feels like, and I’m committed to giving students the kind of explanations I wish I had earlier. My goal is not just to help students get better grades, but to help them finally understand the subject in a way that sticks.
