About Tia
Hi, I’m Tia. I’m Māori and Aboriginal, the eldest of six siblings, and a former nursing student with a real love for learning, culture and helping young people feel confident in themselves.
I’ve always enjoyed school, especially subjects that helped me understand people, health and the world around us. In Year 12, I received academic excellence awards in Psychology, Biology, Nutrition and Research Project B. Psychology was one of the subjects I connected with most because I loved learning about human behavior, development, emotions and why people think and respond the way they do.
Studying nursing also helped me build on that interest through learning about communication, care, ethics and supporting people with empathy. I also have experience working with children in the NDIS space, which has taught me patience and the importance of supporting each student differently. I’m calm, encouraging and best suited to supporting students up to Year 11.

My psychology and ethics lessons are calm, structured and easy to follow, with a focus on helping students understand ideas in a way that actually makes sense. I enjoy topics around human behaviour, wellbeing, decision-making, development, culture, values and how different factors can shape the way people think and act. Lessons usually go for one hour and can focus on homework, assignments, test revision, missed classwork or any topic the student wants extra support with. I like to plan ahead so each session has structure and purpose, but I’m also happy to go with the flow if questions come up or we need to slow down and spend more time on something. Psychology and ethics can sometimes feel like a lot of theories, terms and written responses, so I like to break things down clearly and help students build confidence with both understanding and explaining their ideas. My goal is for students to leave feeling more capable, supported and proud of the progress they’re making.
