About Joseph

I’m a professional singer, actor, and vocal coach with more than 20 years of experience performing and teaching. I’m a former Tokyo Disneyland mainstage performer, where I completed more than 800 live performances alongside Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and the Disney cast. My performance credits include Off-Broadway, U.S. national musical theatre tours, Lincoln Center in New York City, and Princess Cruises.

I’m a three-time Toronto Blue Jays anthem singer and have performed live on Breakfast Television. As a vocal coach, I’ve been featured on Global News and eTalk, and I served as vocal coach for the stars of Adults Season 2, a Disney Productions television series.

I hold a Bachelor of Music in Voice from the University of British Columbia and am a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, where I trained before spending eight years performing professionally in New York.

Today, I coach singers, performers, and professionals in voice, speech, and presentation. My students include professional artists and national-level competitors, including Juno-nominated group Girl Pow-R. My students have also earned top national and provincial results in the Royal Conservatory examinations.

I’m confident I can help anyone become a better singer. My approach develops the natural power of your voice, helping you sing with greater ease, clarity, control, and expression.

What sets my coaching apart is that I combine professional vocal technique with acting and performance training. I’ve coached national champions in Speech Arts & Drama, so we can work on the entire performance, from vocal technique and repertoire to introductions, transitions, acting choices, and connecting with an audience. I’m your one-stop shop for becoming a complete performer.

A typical 60-minute lesson:

30 minutes — Technique & Musicianship
We build your voice through breath support, posture, tone, vocal agility, range, and healthy technique, while developing your musicianship through notes, rhythms, lyrics, and new material.

30 minutes — Repertoire & Performance
We apply your technique to repertoire, working on interpretation, acting choices, vocal expression, stage presence, and connecting with your audience.

I’m classically trained and coach singers in opera, musical theatre, pop, and rap, using backing tracks to develop your voice and performance skills. My specialty is vocal expertise: knowing how to build, strengthen, and use the voice effectively.

Whether you want to polish a specific performance or create a significant transformation, I can meet you where you are. Weekly lessons allow us to make the greatest progress, whether you’re working on breath support, high notes, vocal power, range, or performance confidence.

Most importantly, lessons should be fun. My goal isn’t just to make you a better singer. I want you to become a STAR.

  • When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

From a young age, I was drawn to entertaining others. One pivotal moment was seeing the touring company of Show Boat- the energy, emotion, and sheer talent left me in awe. I knew I wanted to be part of a world where I could move people emotionally.

After graduating from music school, I began working on cruise ships as an MC. Watching my colleagues command the stage with such presence and confidence inspired me. I realized that being an effective performer and communicator was a skill I could develop, and I became determined to master it. That's when my deeper journey into voice, presentation, and public speaking truly began.
  • What makes you passionate about your subject?

Music is a universal language- it connects with people in a way few other things can. The same song can be sung a hundred different ways, and each performance hits differently. That power to stir emotion and bring people together is what drives me. I truly believe music can change lives.

In the world of public speaking, I'm equally passionate. Helping someone find their voice (literally or figuratively) and use it to inform, inspire, or empower others is a profound privilege. Sharing ideas that can positively impact someone's life is one of the most meaningful things a person can do.
  • What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

What I love most is the transformation. Seeing the "before" and "after" of a student's journey is so rewarding. Whether it's a student who nails a keynote speech, blows everyone away at karaoke, or gets called back for a Disney audition-I'm proud of every milestone.

I don't just teach theory; I focus on practical, real-world application. My students walk away with tools they can use immediately, and the results speak for themselves. Whether it's winning a national speech competition or landing a professional performance gig, it's their success that makes me a Superprof.
  • Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

I'd say the singers like Bruno Mars, Jennifer Hudson, and Kelly Clarkson inspire me. They do an incredible balancing act between being artists putting their authentic selves out there, and applying superb learned techniques.

In the realm of public speaking, I admire Tony Robbins and Michelle Obama. They embody what it means to be powerful communicators: grounded in technique but also natural, heartfelt, and genuine. They don't just speak- they connect.
  • What are your keys to success?

I believe in the combination of curiosity, consistent effort, and the right tools. I've always been passionate about learning, and I encourage my students to approach their growth like training for a high-performance sport: with discipline, repetition, and heart.

Success in singing or public speaking doesn't come overnight but with focused guidance and dedication, anyone can achieve their goals. My role is to equip them with the skills and confidence to Nail It!
