About John
After an Oxford Chemistry degree and a 30-year commercial career, I made a career change - getting a first-class mathematics BSc and a PhD at the University of Surrey followed by 14 years as a lecturer in the University of Surrey Mathematics Department. Before starting my BSc, the University required me to get an A in mathematics A level. So I have relatively recent experience of being an A level student. At the University of Surrey, I conducted weekly tutorials for my 4 - 6 first-year tutees.

Tutoring is 1 to 1 either in person at my home in Guildford or online. Lessons are 50 minutes. Focus is on reviewing and critiquing examples set at the previous tutorial and so focusing teaching on topics identified by the student as weaknesses to work on.
