About Gary
I am an experienced educator with 20+ years of officially teaching experience across multiple state secondary schools within the Midlands. I have taught across the departments of Mathematics and humanities covering a wide variety of GCSE subjects.
Official Teaching Experience:
2007 - 2010 - Cover Supervisor completing a broad range of lessons subject to teacher demand at various schools. Demonstrated a continuous ability to adapt to the classroom demands on a daily basis.
2010 -2015 - Mathematics teacher assisting foundation Mathematics & GCSE higher Statistics students with their examinations. I specialised in turning grade 2&3 / E&D students to grade 4/5 students focusing specifically on high return on study topics that would consistently appear in the examinations.
2015 - 2023: - GCSE History, GCSE Mathematics, and A-level History, Head of Year experience across schools.
2023 - Present: Senior Tutor Position teaching history while contributing to wider managerial roles within the school.
Personal Academic Experience:
1998 - 1999: Ruskin College, University of Oxford - Certificate of Higher Education.
2002 - 2007: BA Hons of Humanities with Classical Studies through the Open University.
2009: Post Graduate Certificate in Humanities through the Open University.
2013: BA Open (Humanities) through the Open University.
2016: QTS Status Qualified Teaching Status.

My History lessons include coverage of the Pre-GCSE, GCSE, and A-level specification. I have ongoing experience teaching A-level History at AQA (GCSE), (OCR A-level), Edexcel (GCSE). I can provide tuition lessons focusing on: Misconceptions, on the GCSE -12 & 16 marker - essay planning to grade 9 workshops. A-level: Thematic studies, long essay answers, structure of coursework & mentorship across the A-level curriculum. Specialist GCSE topics - Germany, and Medicine through time. A-level Topics: WWII Germany, and US Civil Rights. All other topics are available upon request such as Native Americans, and Elizabethan. University level modules are subject to specification, please inquire with a description of your module and the desired outcome I am happy to assist on a case by case basis.
