About Mary
My passion for the French language started when I was 11 and wanted to become a baker! My first French language teacher encouraged me that I could learn a new language and that learning French could be an enjoyable process! I studied the French language in high school and college. My junior year of college, I studied abroad in France and stayed with a host family. My language skills improved tremendously during this time! Since then, I have taught at a French language summer camp at a bilingual elementary school in addition to regularly volunteering to provide childcare at a local non-profit. I continue to hone my language skills informally by tutoring some of my peers studying French when they have questions. I would love to help you achieve your goals with the French language whether you hope to use it while traveling or just to pass your class! It took time, but I have been able to achieve fluency in the French language, and I would love to inspire others to do the same!

Learning a second language can be difficult and discouraging but also extremely rewarding! In my lessons, I build upon your interests and strengths to help you get where you want to be. We will focus on the areas and skills you want to develop: speaking, listening, reading, pronunciation, or all of the above to help you achieve your personal or academic goals. If you want to improve your speaking in French, for example, I am open to just having a conversation, focusing on the type of conversation you would like to develop. If it is writing or reading, I would present you with various exercises to find your level and then we would build upon your grammar and vocabulary to get you to where you would like to be. It was my dream to become fluent in French. Whatever your goals are with the French language, I would be honored to help you to achieve them! I am open to teaching individuals from elementary age and beyond who are beginner or intermediate level.

Whenever I speak French with Mary, I know I am entering a space where I will feel encouraged and challenged. Mary is great at identifying the level of French that I am at and tailoring our conversation towards that. When I have questions or do not know something, her explanations are articulate and clear. She is very knowledgeable about a wide range of grammar structures and vocabulary.
