About Jack
Hello! I am a tutor who has graduated with a Chemistry Master’s degree from the University of Manchester. I achieved a First Class Honours in this, as well achieving A grades in both Chemistry and Maths A-levels. In addition to this, I have three years' experience in the education sector as a teacher of science, including a PGCE qualification with QTS from the University of Warwick. I am a friendly and enthusiastic Science Tutor from Coventry, offering support to KS3 and GCSE students. I have previously tutored GCSE-level science and maths, one-on-one, successfully aiding struggling students to pass their exams. In my recent role as a teacher of science at a local secondary school, I have been responsible for leading and inspiring hundreds of students to engage with the science curriculum. I have worked in a diverse setting, supporting students from a variety of social, economic and ethnic backgrounds. This role entailed analysing student information, such as special educational needs and attainment data to ensure the needs of all learners could be met. I personalised learning for those students through designing and delivering bespoke resources and lessons ensuring that any barriers to learning were broken down. My accountability towards the progress of my students and their outcomes relied on designing and developing high-quality teaching programmes and resources to ensure quality first teaching took place. I would often invest significant time during evenings and weekends re-working existing departmental resources to ensure they met my high standards. The impact of this is that roughly 80% of my Year 11 GCSE classes achieved at or above their predicted target grade.

I pride myself on my patience, approachability and professionalism when it comes to tutoring. Most sessions will begin by assessing the students' current understanding of a topic, followed by delivering the concepts and content that are found to be an area of weakness, all at a rate which works for them. I believe in using visual cues, such as utilising whiteboards/paper, coloured pens and even models to represent tricky concepts as I believe this enhances the learning experience. I will constantly assess the students' progress by asking them to explain the concepts and encourage discussion about the content we have covered. I implore you to be curious and ask questions at this point, and will pass no judgement, only offering support and assistance. I will also provide mini-assessments including real past paper questions as a way to consolidate your knowledge and assess understanding, and we will practise these under exam conditions. I will provide additional questions/work for homework and provide feedback, going over anything that you got wrong. I find it essential to focus on these mistakes and to correct them to ensure the best exam results. I will always do my best to facilitate you and tailor the experience based on your specific needs and abilities.
