About Rie
Hi! I’m Rie, a native Japanese speaker from the Tokyo area,
living in WA, U.S. for 3 years!
I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and a Ph.D. in Education. I have teaching experience at a national university in Japan and work as a school counselor, supporting children from various backgrounds.
I've experienced in teaching Japanese as a private tutor and volunteer teacher at a local library.
These experiences help me offer personalized and supportive lessons.

I use well-known textbooks like “Irodori” and “Marugoto”, along with custom-made materials to make learning enjoyable and effective. If you have a specific textbook you’d like to use, feel free to let me know, and I’ll incorporate it into our lessons.

If you’re unsure about Japanese, I also offer English support. I’ll explain things clearly and kindly, so even if you’re a beginner, you’ll feel comfortable and confident in your learning. Perfect! Rie sensei was very patient and attentive during the trial lesson. She also gave me some kind feedback when I made tweaks and prepared a consultation sheet to help better understand my learning needs. Very helpful!
Perfect! She is very patient. She's also, more than qualified to be a Japanese teacher, her credentials are very impressive so what she charges is a bargain. She is very prepared and thorough. She will talk with you about your specific learning goals. She even makes a plan that is specific for you. Overall, Rei is a great teacher at a rate that is below what her experience and education are worth, especially considering she was a university professor in Japan.
