About Yumeng
Hi! I'm a native Mandarin Chinese speaker from China, currently studying for my Master's degree at University College London (UCL).
I'm passionate about languages and cultural exchange, and I'd love to help others discover the Chinese language and culture!
I offer Mandarin lessons for learners of all ages and levels, whether you're a complete beginner, a school student looking for extra support, or an adult hoping to improve your Chinese for travel, work or personal interest.
I believe learning a language should be enjoyable rather than stressful. My teaching style is friendly, patient and flexible, and I aim to adapt each lesson to your individual needs, interests and learning pace. Depending on your goals, we can focus on pronunciation and tones, everyday conversation, vocabulary, reading, writing or Chinese culture.
As a native speaker and an international postgraduate student in London, I understand both the excitement and challenges of learning and communicating in another language.
I'd love to help you build confidence in Mandarin, one step at a time!

I believe everyone learns differently, so I always try to adapt my teaching methods to each student's needs, interests and learning pace.
When a student struggles with something, I prefer to understand where the difficulty comes from rather than simply repeating the explanation or giving them the answer. I also like using real-life examples and interactive activities to make lessons more interesting and easier to understand.
For Mandarin lessons, we can focus on pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing or everyday conversations, depending on your goals. I hope to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
I have previously tutored around 10 students in English in China, which has given me valuable experience in explaining language concepts and working with different learners. I'm also a native Mandarin speaker and currently studying for my Master's degree at UCL.
My lessons are usually 60 minutes long, but this can be flexible depending on your needs. I welcome students of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to those who already have some knowledge of Mandarin. I'm also happy to help school students who need extra support with their Chinese studies!
