About Allie
I graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2017 and began working as a math teacher's assistant in Birmingham, AL shortly thereafter. For the following two years, I led my own math classroom in an urban private Christian school, teaching Pre-Algebra and Geometry. Then, I started my master's in school counseling at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and I will graduate in the Spring 2024. While completing my master's, I have continued to teach and substitute teach math in a variety of school environments. I have lots of experience working with middle and high school students--not only in the classroom, but also in ministry and mentorship roles. I love working with students and hope to convey my love of math towards them, reducing any "math anxiety" that some may have. I would be glad to meet with you and help you reach your math goals!

I take a personalized approach when I tutor students. I like to begin by reviewing the student's current math coursework and assessing their classroom performance. Then, I identify areas for improvement, focusing heavily on the basic math skills that will set up the student for success. I believe in repetition but not speed--math is a creative subject, too, and there are often various ways to solve one problem. I like to let the student explain their work to me in their own words, so I can get a better sense of where we need to go in the session. Since my years of experience have been in secondary math education, I aim to tutor middle and high school students, primarily in the subject areas of Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry.
