About Malissa
I have tutored and taught in a variety of contexts, from summer camps to after-school programs to elementary school classrooms to foreign universities. I have extensive experience with one-on-one academic interventions as well as large groups and online instruction. I help students gain more confidence and feel comfortable producing language, which leads to significant progress in their school performance and informal conversation.

When I teach and tutor I channel my own enthusiasm for the subject into instruction. My main priority is to engage a students' interest so that even after class he or she continues to feel excited about the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures. I am a patient, enthusiastic, and highly-organized individual who loves nothing more than seeing a student make progress in language learning! I always aim to integrate the four areas of speaking, listening, writing, and reading so that students have a well-rounded understanding of each concept or grammar focus.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Davidson College in 2016. I also received High Honors in Hispanic Studies for my senior thesis (a literary analysis of several contemporary Latin American texts). I am a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. I also minored in Educational Studies, so my undergraduate coursework also included specific instruction about Second Language Acquisition and approaches to teaching. Both that theoretical background and my extensive experience working with students of all ages in diverse settings have formed me into the teacher I am today.
