About Annette
I have always been interested in how students learn best. As we are all so different and have grown up in different environments with different parents/guardians, what motivates and helps us learn varies tremendously. For this reason, my approach in teaching English is an adaptive and multi-sensory teaching style.
Memory, interest, and strong ability to problem solve can only flourish when there are strong foundations. This is why developing a trusting relationship with my students is essential. As a tutor, I place great importance in understanding the root cause of where my students are having difficulties learning. For example, they may have an excellent handling of the theoretical fundamentals, but not be able to apply them in practice (or vice versa) because of previous learning experiences or beliefs in their abilities. This does not mean they are better or worse at one or the other, but that they simply need to overcome whatever limiting belief they have developed from previous experience.
Alongside helping my students acquire the fundamental knowledge and tools to make progress, my sessions involve regular reflection on how they have felt about the process and content of what they have learnt so far. From my experience as both teaching and tutoring 2-15 year olds, this adaptive tutoring style has proven to be the best approach to maximise my student's potential and interest.
