About Umar
Hi, I’m Umar — a fully qualified UK secondary maths teacher with a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics and a background in Chemical Engineering. I’m an experienced classroom teacher, having worked both in British and international private schools. I specialise in KS3 and GCSE mathematics. I’m passionate about making maths feel accessible and achievable for all students — not just those who already feel confident with it. I’ve supported a wide range of learners, from those aiming to secure a pass to those striving for top grades in further mathematics, and I always adapt my approach to suit the individual. My teaching style is patient, calm, structured, and supportive. I use proven strategies like retrieval practice, scaffolding, interleaving, and concrete examples to help students build lasting understanding — not just short-term fixes. Above all, I aim to help students grow in confidence and independence. Whether your goal is to catch up, stay on track, or excel in exams, I provide a positive learning environment where students feel encouraged and capable.

My goal is simple: to make maths accessible, and to help students believe in their ability to succeed. I use a calm, structured approach that builds understanding through retrieval practice (revising previously taught content), clear concrete examples and scaffolding — all tailored to the individual. Lessons are 60 minutes, focused, and interactive. Whether you need support catching up or stretching towards top grades, I create a space where students feel safe to ask questions, feel confident in their mathematical abilities and make progress.
