About Alexander
Hello! :)
My name is Alexander, and I am a high school freshman (9th grade) with a 4.0 GPA.
My hobbies/interests consist of hiking, video games, language learning, history, and geography.
I am passionate about learning languages, so I have dedicated the past two years to learning foreign languages, and I am currently learning French, Italian, and Japanese.
Ever since I first helped students at my school with their French homework, I have found that teaching can benefit people for their entire lives, so I hope to be an amazing tutor for students and leave them with the basics that support the foundation of their lifelong journey of learning/using Japanese!
I hope to provide an incredible tutoring experience to students!

As a high school student (currently N5 in Japanese) who dedicates their free time to studying languages, I believe the best way to learn Japanese is not through memorizing long grammar lists, but through 30-minute, high-energy sessions that focus on repetition and active recall, since the more you practice, say, writing hiragana characters, then the stroke order for writing said character will stick in your brain much longer than only doing it once as you would in a classroom or textbook.
Typical Lesson Plan:
Minutes 0-5: a warm-up; a quick review of what we learned to refresh your memory and make sure you don't forget what you learned. E.g. recalling the stroke orders for the "ha" and "ma" rows of hiragana which we may have learned last session.
Minutes 5-20: a "deep dive"; we will focus on one specific topic. E.g. the stroke orders for the "na" and "ka" rows of katakana.
Minutes 20-30: "review and real-world practice"; we will review what we learned, or apply what we've learned in this lesson to real-world usage. E.g. a "kana quiz/game," or you will try to read words fully written in kana.
What sets me apart as a tutor:
As a high school student who studies languages independently, I can provide learning that is more effective and logical than a typical teacher or textbook can, since I have personal experience in language learning. Rather than a textbook that may give you a row of kana to write once which you will forget the day after, I focus on repetition to ensure that the stroke orders and pronunciations "stick" in your brain.
I can also provide homework help! :)
Who my lessons are for:
My lessons specialize in INTRODUCTORY Japanese for beginners (pre-N5), e.g. basic phrases, how to read, write, and pronounce kana, basic speaking/listening practice, useful vocabulary, etc.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor
As a fellow student in Alexander's French class, he remains patient even if you don't understand something, no matter how simple, and remains encouraging and understanding throughout his explanations. He's definitely very smart, and the best learning experience I've probably had with him is him teaching me how to pronounce French words, because those nasal sounds are really challenging at first, and our teacher never really taught us students how to pronounce words, anyways, so I'm grateful that Alexander was there to teach me, or else I never would've gotten to French II!
I am Alexander's friend who attends the same high school as him, and I am deeply into foreign languages just like he is. He has personally helped me learn languages like Japanese by patiently explaining grammar and concepts to me when I did not understand. He has even recommended me methods and apps that I still use to this day for my Japanese learning! He is a very patient and understanding tutor, and he helped me understand a grammar concept even though the explanation took 20 minutes for something that should've been simple, but he never got irritated or gave up on teaching me that specific concept! Highly recommend!
