About Josh
I have been teaching and mentoring in various positions for the majority of my life.
I have five years of experience teaching chess to beginners. I was formally one of Canada's top-rated junior players (around 1900 ELO).
Additionally, I have several years of experience as a sports camp counselor, 4-5 years teaching squash, was a mentor to international students in university at Dartmouth College, taught university photography classes as a TA, and was awarded a Dean's Prize for community service for my mentor work in my final year as a student.
I feel comfortable and excited to teach any beginner interested in learning chess!

I believe that learning chess should exciting, pleasingly challenging, and above all, FUN.
My lesson plans do not take the form of traditional chess lessons. I believe in using engaging puzzles and creative games in order to let my students intuitively learn the game. If you're smiling and engaged while learning the material, you'll be more likely to remember what we covered during your next match.
I teach anyone from absolute beginners to low-intermediate players.
Never touched a chessboard? Amazing.
