About Breandán
I have taught Irish (Gaeilge) professionally since 1998, where I started teaching Irish to Japanese adults in Tokyo. I started teaching online lessons from Australia in November 2019. I speak Cois Fhairrge (Connemara) dialect by preference but I can speak and teach Connaught-based standard Irish (the Irish used in Buntús Cainte and many textbooks) and Ulster-based standard (such as taught in Now You're Talking, etc.), and am now learning Munster Irish as well. I am not a native speaker but I traveled to Ireland five times to study the language and culture and have native-level pronunciation. I have contributed extensively to Forvo, Irish Language Forum, and to I am Learning Irish (Tá mé ag foghlaim na Gaeilge) and other groups on Facebook. I also sing "ar an sean-nós" (old-style unaccompanied Irish singing) and play uilleann pipes, Irish flute and tin whistles.

I base my classes around conversation textbooks such as Buntús Cainte, Gaeilge gan Stró. I can supplement these with grammar explanations and my own materials. Other textbooks such as Learning Irish by Mícheál Ó Siadhail can also be discussed. Alternatively, songs or short stories can be used, depending on the student's objectives.

Brendán is an excellent teacher and so flexible in his approach. He really puts his pupils first and I would recommend him for learning Irish. I’ve been taking one to one lessons for the last year and it’s made a huge improvement. He’s an interesting person who has a real interest in Irish culture, playing traditional music using several instruments. He can do group learning as well and he is very good at working with you to get times which suit your schedule.
Breandán has taught me so much online in Irish. His style is very fluid, he is very approachable, easy going and thorough, he wants to make sure you understand before moving on. He has guided me through many difficulties in understanding and deciphering the many complexities of the Irish language. I would recommend Breandán to any learner, beginner, intermediate and advanced, such is his comprehensive knowledge of the Irish language, and languages in general.
I am a student of Breandán. He is a gifted and patient languge teacher with a deep knowledge of grammar principles and dialects He has a flexible teaching style that meets you wherever you are on your learning journey, and he is very accomodating of his students‘ scheduling and other needs.
I've known him via the internet for about 15 years. He is very knowledgeable in the Irish language and I've relied on his posts on various social media as being a trustworthy source of Irish grammar rules, etc. With his help and the help of others I have become fairly conversational in the Irish language. I appreciate his dedication and study of the language and his willingess to help others along. Kindest Regards, Faber McMullen, Texas
