About Sophie
I have recently completed my A-levels in German, History, and Maths, in which I got 3 A*s. Last year I also achieved an A in AS-level Chemistry. I’m highly motivated and passionate about German, which I’ll be studying alongside History next year at Cambridge. I love the language and its literature, and I’m eager to share this enthusiasm with others. I hope to inspire students to deepen their interest in German and to pursue their own language-learning journeys with confidence and curiosity.

In learning a language, a solid vocabulary is the most important basis. I would start each lesson with a vocabulary test, targeting areas where I know the student is weaker in and topic vocabulary relevant to their respective exam boards. My approach to teaching centres on active recall and consistent practice. Each lesson would involve a grammar exercise to ensure that the student is capable of forming sentences and ideas in a foreign language. I have mentored German to GCSE and AS-level students, and as I have just completed my A-levels, I am very aware of the exam boards and what is required to achieve high grades. I received third place last year in the Oxford German Classic prize for my essay on Schiller's "Die Räuber" and can also help with the literature aspect of the A-level. I would also ensure that reading and listening are practised, and have a translation at the end of each lesson to consolidate the learning so far.
