About Purnima
Here is the summary of my teaching experience.
1. Educational Assistant (Ayer Elementary, Cincinnati) Feb 2023 to current. I work with students having learning disabilities in a 1:1 or small group setting in the general education class to help them understand the curriculum, complete assignments and take tests.
2. I have a 14 year old non verbal autistic son who currently attends the 8th grade general education classroom. I work with him to complete his assignments and prepare for tests. I have taught him functional communication and academics using the Rapid Prompt Method. He is also learning to use the speech generating program Touch Chaton his I-pad.
3. I have worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (Wayne State University) -Jan 1998 to May 2000. I conducted lab sections for undergraduate students, administered tests as well as graded assignments. The subjects I covered were Anatomy and Physiology, Histology and Embryology.

I customize the lesson according to the skill level of the student. I start by assessing the student's background knowledge about the subject. After that I develop the lesson plan such as to fill in any gaps I find. I emphasize the main concepts of the topic and follow up the lesson with questions to assess if the student has comprehended the material taught. I have taught students at the college level as well as those in the Elementary and Middle School. I have experience working with students with learning disabilities like ADHD, Autism etc.
