About Abyan
I am a first-year MEng Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Sheffield, currently achieving first-class marks. Although I now study engineering, English was one of my strongest GCSE subjects, and I achieved grade 9s in both English Language and English Literature in mocks and final GCSEs.
I have over two years of tutoring and academic mentoring experience, including essay feedback and GCSE support across multiple subjects. I also wrote grade 9 GCSE English Language and Literature notes that were approved by my school’s English department for use in class.
My English tutoring is based on understanding how examiners award marks. I have spent time studying examiner guidance, mark schemes and high-level essay structure, as well as getting feedback from teachers, including those with exam-board marking experience.
My style is clear, structured and mark-focused. I help students understand what a strong answer actually does, then turn that into repeatable steps they can use in essays, unseen questions and timed exams.

I offer online GCSE English Language and English Literature support for students who want clearer essay structure, stronger analysis and better exam technique. I aim to give students an accurate strategy they can confidently apply under exam conditions.
I specialise in AQA GCSE English Language and Literature, but I can also support students using similar skills across other exam boards.
My lessons are usually 60 minutes, but I am happy to arrange shorter or longer sessions. Lessons can focus on essay planning, paragraph structure, quotation analysis, unseen texts, creative writing, transactional writing, timing, or improving previous answers.
I focus on making mark schemes understandable. We look at what the question is really asking, where marks are being lost, and how to build more precise, higher-level answers. For Literature, this includes thesis statements, embedded quotations, language/form/structure analysis and context. For Language, this includes inference, comparison, evaluation, creative writing and clear exam technique.
I can also mark students’ GCSE English work outside lessons, giving exam-board-specific feedback, annotated comments, improved phrasing and clear targets for the next attempt.

Written feedback prices are based on the amount of work sent and the level of detail requested. If the work is unusually long, I will confirm the price before starting. The free first lesson is used as an introductory diagnostic to understand the student’s aims, texts, exam board and main improvement areas.
