About Trung
A native from Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam, I am currently a PhD student in Mathematics at Caltech. I got my BA from Duke University in Mathematics and Computer Science.
I have had a lot of experience in helping students with university-level courses such as calculus, linear algebra, probability, algorithm design and analysis. Teaching is an incredibly fulfilling experience: every time you stand up in front of the class for an hour, your students leave understanding something which they did not understand before. You can see that you have made a positive difference. Hence, I love explaining mathematics and problem solving in ways that are intuitive and helpful to my students.
In my free time, I enjoy playing tennis and watching anime

My strategy has always been adapting my lessons to the student needs and background, with an emphasis on helping the student reach their goal.
If the student wishes to understands hard concepts in mathematics better, I strive to break down abstract definitions into smaller pieces and provide key insights and intuitive visualization.
If the student wishes to do better on exams, I prepare a variety of exercises to help them learn the problem solving strategies. For example, I once helped a Duke undergraduate student from midterm grade D to final grade B+ in calculus by working together with my student on a lot of similar problems to the homework.
