  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed a strong passion for drums in my early teens—music became both a creative outlet and a discipline in my life. Around the same time, I found myself drawn to mathematics for its logical structure and problem-solving nature.
Tutoring started naturally for me during university, when I began helping other students with math. I soon realised I enjoyed breaking down complex ideas and helping others understand them in a simple, engaging way.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

On the drums, I teach everything from technique and coordination to groove and musicality—especially in jazz, funk, and blues. I enjoy talking with students about time feel, improvisation, dynamics, and how to serve the music thoughtfully.
In math, I work with students of different levels, from algebra to calculus and exam preparation. I particularly enjoy helping them break down challenging concepts and understand the logic behind the problem.
I don’t really dislike any topic—in fact, I enjoy the challenge of making "less interesting" subjects more accessible and enjoyable.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes—my drum teacher, Salvatore, had a huge influence on me. He provided me with methods that deepened my understanding of the instrument and shaped the musician and teacher I am today.
In mathematics, I was inspired by Professor Roberto, who taught me during my engineering studies. His passion for calculus and integration theory was contagious. He taught me that even the most complex problems can be tackled with patience and by breaking them down into simple, manageable parts. That lesson has deeply influenced my teaching style.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I believe a good tutor needs patience, adaptability, and empathy. Every student learns differently, so it’s essential to listen carefully and adjust your approach to meet their needs. Encouragement and clarity are key—whether you’re explaining a rhythm or a mathematical formula.
Above all, a tutor should help students build confidence and independence in their learning.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One experience I’ll never forget happened during a big band rehearsal. I didn’t have the best connection with the music director, which can be tricky—especially for a drummer in that setting.
We were about to play Jumpin’ at the Woodside, a fast swing tune, and the director counted it in much faster than expected. I had no idea why, but I had to adapt instantly. I managed to control the tempo, guide the band, and take some calculated musical risks. That moment taught me the importance of staying calm, focused, and taking responsibility—even under pressure.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still face in your subject?

In drumming, the challenge is often maintaining consistency—technically and musically—especially in performance settings where precision is key.
In math, my personal challenge was learning not to overthink. I used to approach problems in too complicated a way, and I had to train myself to simplify and structure my thinking—something I now help my students do as well.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Teaching itself is one of my biggest passions. I love helping students grow, whether that’s finding their voice on the drums or mastering a tough math concept. Seeing someone gain confidence in their skills is incredibly rewarding.
Outside of teaching, I’m passionate about performing, composing music, and jamming with other musicians. I love storytelling—whether through rhythm, sound, or conversation.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions 😄)?

I give each student individual care and attention. My lessons are personalised, engaging, and focused on building both skill and confidence. I bring real-world experience and a passion for both creative and analytical thinking.
I always aim to make learning not only effective, but also fun, encouraging, and empowering.
