About Rachel
I hold a Masters in Contemporary Production and Performance from Berklee College of Music, and MA in Music from University of Edinburgh. With over seven years of experience, teaching provides me the opportunity to share love of music with others.
As a harpist, playing has taken me to venues across the UK and beyond. At home I play regularly in Glasgow’s vibrant session scene and is a member of Live Music Now Scotland. I lead the Scolty Harp Ensemble in North East Scotland and have taught both privately and with organisations such as Scottish Culture & Traditions. Awards for composition include best original composition from Maeve Gilchrist at the 2025 Princess Margaret of the Isles Memorial Prize for Senior Clarsach, the Iain McLeod Young Composer’s Award from the Edinburgh International Harp Festival, and The Times’ Carol Competition.

I enjoy helping my harp students to develop their musicality, technique and repertoire, as well as exploring the use of rhythm, harmony and melody. I play mostly traditional music with influences from other styles and am interested in helping you to pursue musical ideas that interest you. I have been having lessons with Rachel over the past year, and whilst this has mostly been via a virtual platform, I have always left lessons feeling extremely satisifed with their quality and content covered. I would highly recommend Rachel to anyone seeking music lessons that are tailored to their specific needs and interests, from a teacher who is approachable, adaptable, and super fun to work with!
Rachel has been teaching my children piano for about 5 years and is kind, adaptable, enthusiastic and a very talented musician. During lockdown she swapped to zoom lessons with no problems.
