About Yessenia
I am a 22-year-old Mexican-American woman and native Spanish speaker and I learned English upon entering kindergarten. Over my academic journey, I have learned two additional languages: Italian and Portuguese. I have an extensive background in romance languages and can provide additional information on the roots of Latin words. I just recently graduated from Cornell University in the spring of 2025 as a double major in Political Science and American Studies. I also graduated with three minors: History, European Studies, and Spanish language and culture.

I create a general lesson plan before meeting with my students, and I create weekly agendas full of goals for the week. These goals include vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, writing, and reading in Spanish. After every lesson, adjustments are made to the pre-existing agenda to make sure that the lesson is going at the learning pace of the student. Daily changes occur as well as weekly changes. For students that are also taking Spanish courses in their schools, specific tutoring on concepts that they are not understanding is provided. Studying habits/tips are given to the students with 1-2 weeks of preparation before an exam. 1/3 of the lesson was dedicated to studying for exams and the other 2/3 were dedicated to doing homework, such as helping with assignments or projects. If students did not need help with homework, assignments or projects, the entire lesson was dedicated to studying and taking practice exams of the content being tested.
