My approach is to analyze the student's current capability. Then work with their strengths to build knowledge with practical examples from the real world. Lauding small achievements and encouraging queries makes students keep the interest alive in the subject.
For instance, when they need to learn division, dividing a pizza in slices, cutting a chocolate in pieces, always work.
