About Samantha
Math has been my favorite subject since elementary school. I've always loved working with numbers and abstract concepts in math. I completed a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics and statistics at Stony Brook University. I am a CRLA level III certified tutor with 7 years of tutoring experience. I have tutored a wide variety of students from elementary to graduate level. My favorite subjects to tutor are calculus and GRE math prep. On a more personal note, I am a musician, gamer, and outdoors enthusiast. I love hiking, biking and rock climbing outside. I enjoy composing music as well as playing wind instruments and piano. My favorite video games are Valorant, Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Minecraft, and Halo 3.

My teaching style is geared towards helping students in the long term. My main technique is asking questions until my students reach the answer or understanding on their own. This technique encourages analytical thinking and builds confidence. Students are always surprised by how much they actually know. My goal is to provide you with a tool-kit to succeed on your own, so you won’t need to seek help in the future. My lessons are typically student guided. It's important you know what you struggle with and are able to bring example problems and questions to our sessions. The first step to improving is recognizing what you don’t understand. What sets me apart as a tutor is that I'm not there to help you improve only your understanding of the course material, but also to help you learn how to help yourself when you don’t know how to move forward on math problems. I will also help you identify weaknesses in your fundamentals and help you improve in those areas. Strong fundamentals are the foundation of success in math. I prefer in-person lessons.
