About Janna
I have six years of experience tutoring English, as well as teaching and leading classrooms in various other subjects. My primary focus has been working with students in grades 6-12 on English grammar, essay writing, vocabulary, and conversational English for non-native speakers. Through personalized instruction, I have helped students significantly improve their academic performance, as well as their SAT, ACT, and TOEFL scores. In addition, I was the lead teacher for a middle school summer program for 2 years, where I developed lesson plans, led classroom activities, and established behavioral standards. This experience helped me strengthen my teaching skills, especially in using a variety of teaching methods to engage different types of learners.

My lessons are designed for 6th-12th grade and include multimodal learning tools, like games, writing activities, and connections to common pop culture to help with memory retention. A typical lesson plan sounds like a brief 2-3 minute icebreaker, a brief review of what we learned from the previous lesson, a verbal lesson + note-taking AND/OR help with homework, a worksheet or a game! I also do weekly vocab lists if their classes don't already have them.
