About Mattea
Hi! My name is Mattea, and I’m a passionate, reliable tutor with years of experience working with students of all ages. I hold a B.A. in Communication Studies with a minor in Film, Television, and Digital Media from UCLA, where I graduated with a 3.8 GPA. In HS, I scored a 1490 on the SAT (790 Math, 700 English) and completed rigorous AP coursework in Calculus BC, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, and Italian. I also maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school and was a member of the National Honor Society. Beyond academics, I’ve worked in a variety of mentorship roles—tutoring, coaching youth soccer, and mentoring students ages 5–18 through a UCLA nonprofit. A fun fact about me is that I love all things movies and TV. I've worked on multiple commercials and short films, and I hope to become a producer one day:) I also love to play sports and be outdoors whenever I can, whether that be playing spikeball at the beach, hiking, or anything in between!

My approach as a tutor is centered around adaptability and understanding each student’s unique learning style. I aim to do for my students what one of my favorite teachers once did for me: help them discover how they learn best. For me, that meant frequent low-stakes quizzes that improved my long-term retention—but every student is different, and I tailor my methods accordingly.
A typical lesson starts with preparation. I ask students to share classwork, homework, and any specific areas of confusion ahead of time so I can come ready with thoughtful explanations and targeted support. During our sessions, we focus on what doesn’t make sense and take the time to work through problems in depth—prioritizing quality over quantity. I guide students toward answers rather than simply giving them, with the larger goal of helping them learn how to learn.
What sets me apart is my commitment to finding alternative explanations when the standard ones don’t click. I believe in meeting students where they are, being patient, and building their confidence through clarity and encouragement.
I work with students ages 3–17, and I’m comfortable tutoring a range of subjects—from basic arithmetic to pre-calculus, beginner grammar and writing, and introductory science courses, especially biology and chemistry.
