About Victor
I am an experienced educator with a strong academic background and a genuine passion for helping students succeed. I hold an M.A. in Spanish and am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literature at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I have taught at the elementary, secondary, and university levels and have experience working with students from a wide variety of backgrounds and learning needs.
As a tutor, I strive to create a welcoming and professional environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing their skills. I take the time to understand each student's goals and challenges so that I can provide personalized instruction and meaningful feedback. Whether you need help with Spanish, English, Social Studies, history, economics, writing, or another related subject, I am committed to helping you understand the material, build confidence, and achieve your academic goals.

My approach as a tutor is student-centered, supportive, and adaptable. I believe students learn best when lessons are adjusted to their individual needs, learning styles, academic goals, and previous experience. I use clear explanations, guided practice, conversation, discussion, examples, and individualized feedback to help students understand concepts and develop confidence. Rather than simply giving students answers, I help them understand the material and develop strategies they can use independently.
A typical lesson begins with a brief review of previous material and an assessment of the student's current understanding. I then introduce the main topic or learning objective, explain the concepts clearly, and provide examples. The student and I work through guided practice before applying the material through exercises, discussion, reading, writing, or problem-solving. I finish by reviewing the key concepts, addressing any remaining difficulties, and identifying areas for continued practice.
What sets me apart is my combination of extensive classroom experience and academic training. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literature at UCSB and hold an M.A. in Spanish. I have taught Spanish at the university level, worked with heritage and second-language Spanish learners, and taught English, Social Studies, History, Economics, and related subjects in secondary education. This experience has taught me how to adapt my instruction to students with different backgrounds, abilities, and learning needs.
I offer lessons for students at a wide range of levels, including elementary, middle school, high school, college, university, and adult learners. I can provide support in Spanish, English, and Social Studies, including introductory and intermediate Spanish, heritage Spanish, grammar, conversation, reading, writing, Hispanic and Latin American literature and culture, history, economics, and other social science subjects. I also work with students who need help understanding course material, completing assignments, preparing for exams, improving academic writing, or developing greater confidence in their subject.
