About Claire
Hello! My name is Claire and I have a first class degree from the University of Edinburgh where I studied Sociology and Social Anthropology (MA Hons). In September, I will start my Masters degree in Migration Policy at London School of Economics. I am from Glasgow, and I am currently based tin Madrid, working part-time as a teaching assistant in a primary school and as an online tutor which I have been doing for four years now. My degree entailed seeking to understand the social world and how humans move through it in alternating ways. I think this has given me a unique, open-minded perspective which I bring to my teaching by making sure my lessons are truly tailored to how a particular student understands their own world and therefore how they learn. I thoroughly enjoy tutoring as I believe it is immensely satisfying, and it is a great way to interact with people from all walks of life.

My lessons last 55 minutes and are engaging and tailored to my specific student's needs. For English as a foreign language lessons, I like to create a comfortable environment in which students feel they can make mistakes as they practise a new language. For school qualifications in English (National 5/Higher/GCSE + university/school entrance exams), past papers and exam techniques are the main focus, as well as encouraging an interest in the subject. For proofreading/advising essay writing and dissertations, I like to incentivise students to think outside of the box so that not only am I correcting grammar and sentence structure, but I am also providing the student with a deep understanding of their subject so that they can work independently and confidently in the future.
