About Sophia
Hi! I’m Sophia, a bilingual Spanish and English speaker who grew up between New Zealand and Uruguay. I lived in Uruguay for around 10 years, so Spanish has always been a big part of my life and upbringing. I also have a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Spanish and International Relations, and I love being able to share my knowledge of the language and culture with others.
Outside of tutoring, I’m a very active person and love spending my spare time outdoors. I enjoy running, hiking, going to the gym and exploring new places, but I also love cooking and spending time with friends and family.
I’m naturally friendly, patient and easy-going, and I want my students to feel comfortable and relaxed during our lessons. Learning a new language can sometimes feel intimidating, so I’m all about creating a positive environment where you can ask questions, make mistakes and build your confidence at your own pace!

My approach to tutoring is friendly, relaxed and tailored to each student and what they would like to achieve. I want my lessons to be a space where students feel comfortable practising their Spanish, asking questions and making mistakes along the way.
Having lived in Uruguay for around 10 years, I am fluent in both Spanish and English and have a strong understanding of conversational and everyday Spanish. I also have a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Spanish and International Relations, which has given me a strong academic understanding of the language as well.
Lessons are typically 45–60 minutes and can include conversation practice, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing depending on the student’s goals. I’m happy to work with complete beginners, primary and secondary school students, travellers, or adults simply wanting to improve their Spanish and feel more confident speaking it.
