About Ethan
I recently graduated magna cum laude from Yale University and will soon be beginning my PhD in English at UC Berkeley. At Yale, I worked at the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, where I was both a writing tutor and pedagogical partner (a program in which I partnered with professors to improve their classes). Moreover, at Yale, I was in the intensive certificate program for Education Studies, refining my approach to and understanding of pedagogy and educational history. All in all, this demonstrates my passion and qualification for teaching and learning.

I approach tutoring as a collaboration between student and tutor. Together, we will decide on a plan of study and make goals for our progress, whether they be goals for a single session or across our tutoring sessions. Because of this, lesson plans are flexible and responsive to student needs. For instance, if a student wanted to improve their writing, we might turn our attention to parts of the writing process — pre-writing, outlining, drafting, revisions — familiarizing ourselves with what is required from each stage in order to write the best essay.
I am able to tutor students ranging from elementary school to college. As a tutor, I am kind, patient, and supportive of my students, who I believe are capable of success given the right tools.
