About Harshica
Hello! My name is Harshica Gnanananthan, and I am a recent graduate with a first class in BSc (Hons) Genetics at Edge Hill University. I previously completed a Higher National Diploma in Genetics with a First Class grade. I have strong academic and practical experience in the sciences. Beyond my academic background, I’ve also taken on leadership roles (Prefect, Games Captain, Student Ambassador), volunteered at an animal shelter, and been active in university societies. These experiences have shaped me into a patient, approachable, and supportive tutor who can adapt to different learning styles. I have prior experience teaching chemistry and biology to GCSE and A level students through online as well as in person. What started out as a help to friend turned into a real passion for the subject and tutoring. I developed genuine interest in helping students not only succeed in their exams but also discover the excitement of science. I believe that every student learns differently, so my tutoring is student-focused, interactive and tailored to individual needs. My approach combines breaking down complex topics into clear, simple explanations with active learning strategies that help students truly understand, not just memorise. I begin by assessing each student’s current level, strengths, and areas that need improvement. This helps me design lessons that directly address their gaps. In Biology and Chemistry, many students struggle because they try to memorise without understanding. I use diagrams, real-life examples and step-by-step explanations to make concepts stick. Instead of just lecturing, I ask guided questions, encourage students to explain concepts back to me, and use past paper questions to strengthen problem-solving and exam techniques. For GCSE and IAL students, I put strong emphasis on exam-style questions, time management and marking schemes. I help students understand exactly what examiners are looking for. I make lessons supportive and encouraging, so students feel comfortable asking questions and building confidence in their own abilities. Whether you prefer structured lesson plans, quick revision sessions, or detailed problem-solving practice, I adjust my style to suit you. By the end of my sessions, students not only improve their grades but also develop a deeper interest and confidence in Biology and Chemistry.
