My Tutoring Approach
Teaching Philosophy & Methodology
My tutoring is built on personalized, adaptive learning that meets each student exactly where they are. I begin every relationship by understanding the learner's goals, current knowledge, learning preferences, and any challenges they're facing. From there, I design a pathway that's uniquely theirs.
I use a Socratic questioning approach combined with scaffolded instruction. Rather than simply providing answers, I guide students to discover solutions themselves through strategic questions, which builds deeper understanding and confidence. When introducing new concepts, I break them into manageable chunks, connect them to what students already know, and provide immediate opportunities for application.
My sessions are highly interactive and conversational. I adjust my pacing and complexity in real-time based on student responses, and I'm comfortable pivoting completely if something isn't clicking. I also emphasize metacognition—helping students understand how they learn best so they can become more independent learners over time.
Session Structure
Typical lesson length: 30-60 minutes, though I'm flexible based on student needs and attention span.
Each session generally follows this flow:
Check-in (5 min): Review previous concepts, address questions, gauge current understanding
New content or skill development (20-40 min): Interactive instruction with examples, practice, and feedback
Application & synthesis (10-15 min): Students work through problems or scenarios independently while I provide guidance
Wrap-up (5 min): Summarize key takeaways, preview next steps, answer lingering questions
