Learning is never a one-size-fits-all endeavor, and neither is the way one teaches one’s students. Although not required, a preliminary consultation is strongly recommended. During this meeting, which runs between 30 to 45 minutes, both the student and I will get to know each other, discuss his top learning priorities, and I will use the duration of the consultation to determine which style of learning will be most successful in his retention of the specified material. We will also construct a syllabus that will yield results in the most efficient and timely number of pre-determined number of sessions. Now as far as the sessions go, and depending on the material to be learned, there may be subjects that are best covered outside the pages of a book. There may be occasional visits to museums, art galleries, historic landmarks, just mention a few alternatives to textbook-focused sessions. I will do my best to make each tutoring session both informative and fun, but that depends greatly on a student’s active participation throughout the lesson.
